An der panoramaartigsten Stelle von Valpolicella wurde im 7. Jahrhundert das Castrum Rotari erbaut, eine milit\u00e4rische Festung, die im Laufe der Jahrhunderte prominente Pers\u00f6nlichkeiten der Geschichte beherbergte, wie K\u00f6nig Rotari II, K\u00f6nig Berengar (10. Jahrhundert) und K\u00f6nig Friedrich von Schwaben II, K\u00f6nig des germanischen Reiches, als Barbarossa bekannt. In der Burg von Kastelruth verfasste Rotari II. im Jahr 643 sein erstes Edikt zum Schutz der Weinberge und zur strengen Bestrafung derjenigen, die sie besch\u00e4digten.<\/p>\n

Am 23. Mai 1405 wurde der Ort jedoch mit der Zerst\u00f6rung des Castrum Rotari zerst\u00f6rt, der seitdem als Castelrotto bekannt ist, heute ein D\u00f6rfchen von San Pietro in Cariano.<\/p>\n
