– Valpolicella – Verona
The map of Valpolicella.
Valpolicella is situated in northern Italy, in Veneto region.
The soils that characterize Valpolicella have a special soil minerality and are gently lapped by the influence of gentle winds of Lake Garda.
Valpolicella Classica
Classic Valpolicella is the area in the province of Verona comprising the municipalities of:
- Fumane
- Marano di Valpolicella
- Negrar
- San Pietro in Cariano
- Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella
Valpolicella wines produced in this area take the name Classico.
Valpolicella Orientale
The geographical area devoted to the production of Valpolicella DOC wine extends over the entire foothills of the province of Verona almost to the border with the province of Vicenza, whose territory is adequately ventilated, bright and favorable to the performance of all the vegetative-productive functions of the vines.
Valpantena
The Valpantena Zone is part of the Valpolicella wine district in which Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella and Recioto della Valpolicella are produced.
Midway between the "classic" Valpolicella and the more eastern Valpolicella, this area is characterized by valley soils, very deep, moderately fine-textured, originating from sedimentary and limestone rocks. The climate has significant temperature ranges between day and night.
Valpolicella is divided into three distinct areas: the Classica district, the Valpantena district and the Valpolicella Orientale district.
Valpolicella
House of Fraccaroli.
In the heart of Valpolicella Classica, on the top of the highest hill in the hamlet of Castelrotto, stands Casa Fraccaroli, one of the oldest abodes in the area, built in 1790. Like most Venetian villas, it has a proper cellar in its basement, which has been dedicated to the production and ageing of wines for centuries.
Innocenzo Fraccaroli.
– Il Canova di Verona
Fraccaroli family was one of the first to settle in this area, building the villa bearing the same name at the end of the 18th century. The descendants of the family have proudly kept the name Casa Fraccaroli also to honor Innocenzo Fraccaroli, an internationally renowned sculptor also known as ‘Verona’s Canova’ and who was born in this very villa in 1805. A pupil of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, in 1829 he won the grand prize for sculpture at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts with his marble statue ‘Wounded Achilles’.
The sculptor Fraccaroli is known worldwide for his works inspired by Greek mythology, which in turn inspired the labels of our wines in the CASTRUM Platinum Collection. You can find this wine line, with artistic labels, exclusively in CASTRUM Valpolicella estate, located within the same property owned by Fraccaroli – Borghetti family.
CASTRUM, today is also Suites & Rooms – Wine bar Bistro – Events: an accommodation complex owned by the same family.
